This project is sponsored by Boston College’s Irish Studies Program and produced by the Office of Marketing Communications.

The documents on the History page and the information on the Resources page were researched and written by Ruth-Ann Harris of the Irish Studies Program and Kathleen Williams of Boston College’s O’Neill Library.

This project is based on The Search for Missing Friends: Irish Immigrant Advertisements Placed in the Boston Pilot (New England Historic Genealogical Society, Boston, 1989-1993), edited by Ruth-Ann M. Harris, Donald M. Jacobs, Dominique M. Pickett, and B. Emer O’Keeffe. This eight-volume set includes a detailed analysis of the data, and scholarly information about the significance of the advertisements.

Please access the Resources for more information about genealogical research. For more information, email Kathleen Williams.
